Fall Finale???

Posted on Tuesday 28 November 2006

When I first read about the Nick and Jessica break-up, I didn’t believe it. Then I saw another story and another. When it was reported in US Weekly, I knew it to be true. So now that I’ve seen “Fall Finale” on three different shows on three different networks, I know that this is standard operating procedure from here on out.

I’m not sure when Fall Finales became an acceptable excuse for primetime television shows to take several months off in the middle of the season. Dan purports that the networks are paranoid and don’t want to film too many episodes in case a show is a miserable failure. That may be true, in the case of NBC’s “Heroes,” which thankfully has been a huge hit. But what about “Lost” and “Prison Break?” At least Prison Break was the first fall kick-off show, beating other shows out of the gate by weeks.

Lost gave us like six episodes, most of which were more back stories. How about I get to find out what those ice fishing dudes were doing monitoring electromagnetic force fields or some shit at the end of season 2? How about I get to see where Michael and Walt drove their boat? How about I learn a little bit about how Desmond can see the future? Or maybe someone can explain to me how Sayid got back to camp after searching for Jack, Sawyer and Kate. Maybe one of the writer’s can find enough ink in their pen to write about why I saw a giant stone foot on the shore at the end of last season.

I admit to the suckage of watching rerun after rerun while networks attempt to stretch 26 episodes across 35 weeks for sweeps. And maybe filling my November through February with Taye Diggs’ interpretation of Ground Hog Day will prove to be effective. I just wish someone would’ve told me.

I can’t believe they didn’t consult with you first either.

Jer…are you a TV rookie? I expected more from you. This has been going on for years, they just finally got smart enough to make it a marketing splash by calling it a fall finale to generate more hype. Are you telling me that you are not more interested knowing this is the FALL FINALE! vs. just watching a show in late Nov or early Dec and then finding out at the end when you are expecting scenes that it won’t be on again until Jan?
On another note, how much did Chili’s pay One Tree Hill last night? Any guesses? i bet it was somewhere in the $500,000-$1 million dollar neighborhood…
